The speakers are Joni Vanderslice and Kathleen Mayers who will be speaking about their decision to construct the first LEED certified building on Hilton Head Island and green building products. Joni Vanderslice founded J. Banks Design Group in 1986; and since grown the company into an internationally recognized design firm that has been named by Interior Design Magazine as a top 200 interior design giant for 7 consecutive years. The firm’s design projects throughout the US, Ireland, Italy, Mexico and the Caribbean resulted in being named as the 2009 Atlanta Decorative Arts Center’s Southeastern Contract Designer of the Year.

Joni’s ongoing commitment to the quality of life of the communities and people with whom she works is perhaps most evident within the new J Banks building. The 18,000-square-foot structure is the first LEED-certified building on Hilton Head Island, and only the twelfth in South Carolina. Her decision to build green resulted from wanting to gain first-hand knowledge of new practices that could benefit her clients as well as provide a healthier environment for her employees.

Kathleen Mayers founded KPM Flooring in September 2007. At that time she began the design of KPM’s current showroom and assisted with the interior finishes for the J. Banks building. In May of 2008 KPM Flooring moved into its permanent location at 35 Main Street. KPM Flooring carries a full line of flooring products - stone, tile, wood, carpet, area rugs and specialty items. The last three years she has travelled extensively seeking out the latest in flooring products with an emphasis on green building materials. Currently KPM Flooring is celebrating its win as “Favorite Flooring Store” on Hilton Head as voted by the readers of Hilton Head Monthly. Having only been open a year and half she is exceptionally proud of the honor. Please join us for what will be an informative presentation.

GD is an opportunity for people to get together and discuss ways to reduce their energy consumption, talk about green initiatives and network with local businesses who have a "green" focus and commitment. There is no entry fee and all are welcome. "Green Drinks Hilton Head" will rotate each month with “Green Drinks Bluffton” and meet on the last Thursday of the each month - except Nov & Dec.
