Forestkeeper Second Saturday at Pooler Recreation Complex

In November of 2008, more than 100 volunteers showed up to help Savannah Tree Foundation plant 200 canopy trees at the Pooler Recreation Complex located off Pooler Parkway.  The trees will help to provide shade for recreational users at the city’s municipal park for years to come.

New and previous volunteers who helped plant these trees last year are invited to come see how their trees are progressing and to help prune, much and maintain the young trees!  Partners for the past tree planting included Melaver, Inc., the City of Pooler’s City Council, Public Works Department and Recreation Departments, Forklifts & Bobcat of Savannah, Georgia Power and Vermeer Southeast.  Volunteers from A Class Act Dance Studio, Bartlett Tree Experts, Boy Scouts, Chatham County Extension, Gulfstream Aerospace, HandsOn Savannah, Mansion on Forsyth Park, Pooler Lions Club, Savannah Arts Academy, Savannah Country Day School, and Weeds & Seeds Garden Club attended.

Volunteers should bring gloves, hard-tined rakes, and pitchforks if possible, although tools will be provided.  Refreshments and community service hours are available.

Driving directions from Savannah:  Take I-16 to Exit 155 (Hilton Head/Savannah International Airport, Pooler). This is the first exit west of I-95.  Turn right at the bottom of the exit. Go approx. 3.5 miles to the entrance of the Pooler Recreation Complex on your left. Continue past the YMCA on your left to the Recreation Complex parking area.
