Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Calls on the President to Reverse Administration’s Offshore Drilling Plan

The still-unfolding tragedy in the Gulf of Mexico due to the explosion and sinking of the Deepwater Horizon offshore drilling rig has irrevocably shown that offshore oil and gas drilling is not conducted safely, securely or without harm to the environment or workers.

We call on the President of the United States to reverse his Administration’s proposal to expand offshore drilling into the eastern Gulf of Mexico and along the Atlantic seaboard.

Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Not Giving Up On Efforts to Protect Georgians from Unfair Utility Costs

The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy will be back in court for a hearing on April 29, 2010 in its continuing effort to protect Georgians from unfair utility costs in connection with the proposed construction of two new nuclear reactors at Plant Vogtle near Waynesboro, Georgia.

DAUFUSKIE ISLAND CONSERVANCY EARTH DAY CELEBRATION

On Saturday, April 24 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., everyone is invited to come to Daufuskie Island to participate in the first annual Daufuskie Island Earth Day Celebration.

TCL New River adds solar panel showcase

Santee Cooper, Palmetto Electric Cooperative and the Technical College of the Lowcountry recently dedicated a 20- kilowatt solar array at TCL’s New River Campus in Okatie. The project is the largest solar installation in the Lowcountry and was made possible by South Carolinians who purchase Santee Cooper Green Power.

The project includes a series of nine canopies, each covered with 10 solar panels and sheltering a bench, adding another level of functionality to the installation.

Savannah Tree Foundation unveils new Volunteer Training Program

The Savannah Tree Foundation is launching an exciting new educational program beginning February 28th! The Forest Steward Program, free and open to the public, is a series of monthly educational sessions taught by professional arborists and other experts.

Established through a grant from the Georgia Forestry Commission, the program is designed to educate individuals or groups with diverse interests in nature, hiking, gardening, the outdoors, and our local environment about the importance of trees and the conservation of our historic urban forest.
