125 Volunteers Needed to Plant 250 trees

The Savannah Tree Foundation is partnering with Chatham County and the Georgia Forestry Commission to plant 250 trees in the Westlake community on Saturday, February 13th starting at 9:00 a.m. Approximately 125 volunteers are needed to help plant trees at this family- friendly event suitable for people of all ages. Refreshments, tools and community service hours are provided.

The Westlake site was previously purchased by Chatham County using FEMA funds to buy flood-prone residential properties.

Ink World USA is currently picking up Empty Inkjet & Toner Cartridges at locations throughout the upstate, and will donate $1 for each cartridge picked up to the Computer For Kids group. Computer For Kids helps underprivileged kids to learn computer skills that will help them for years to come.

Drought officially over for all SC counties

The drought is officially over for all South Carolina counties after the State agency members of the S.C. Drought Response Committee removed the incipient declaration for 9 counties on Wednesday, December 9, 2009. Much of the state including the counties that were still in drought received 150% to 300% of normal rainfall over the past 30 to 60 days. According to Hope Mizzell, S.C. State Climatologist, the wet pattern this fall (September – November) was just what was needed to saturate the ground and jump start refilling and recharging our lakes and groundwater.

Forestkeeper Second Saturday at Pooler Recreation Complex

In November of 2008, more than 100 volunteers showed up to help Savannah Tree Foundation plant 200 canopy trees at the Pooler Recreation Complex located off Pooler Parkway.  The trees will help to provide shade for recreational users at the city’s municipal park for years to come.
